Project Description:
MDA is one of Canada’s largest systems engineering companies; developers of advanced information system solutions for space, land, and maritime applications. As an ISR Company, MDA has delivered a number of large operational intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) solutions to defence departments in Canada, and to government customers around the world. We are now engaged with delivering operations to the Australian Government.
Position Description:
The Employee will work for the MDA on the Canadian and Australian Defence Forces UAV Projects for Afghanistan, in the role of Ops Mgr/AVO.
Responsibilities:
Operate the UAV system equipment:
- Perform the preflight checks and inspections of UAV System
- Fly the UAV
- Be familiar with the normal operating procedures and the emergency procedures
- Be able to perform the Built In Test (BIT), trouble shoot known technical issues and perform functional check flights after maintenance activities
- Launch/Recovery operation
- Coordinate with the local ATC
Operate the UAV with EO/IR, EW or SAR sensor installed:
- Perform preflight checks required when EO/IR, EW or SAR sensor installed
- Operate UAV EO Payload under UAV normal and emergency operation conditions
- Understand and interpret EO/IR imagery to be able to identify targets
- Operate UAV SAR Payload under UAV normal and emergency operation conditions
- Understand and interpret SAR imagery
- Perform BIT for sensors
Assist in the deployment and setup of the UAV System be capable of using and maintaining the operation records and documentation:
- Complete operator logs and records
- Use and update operator manuals
Mission planning:
- Define mission scenarios
- Coordinate with the CF and ADF operational organizations
- Supervise team preparation for mission
- Brief the team before the mission
Responsible for implementation of operational decisions such as dealing with emergencies and mission updates.
Conduct post flight briefing.
Act as Deputy Site Manager, when assigned.
Other tasks as required by the MDA On-Site manager.
Authorities:
Responsible to the applicable Project Manager and/or Site Manager who will approve any applicable work tasks.
Schedule:
Employment may include four (4) months Training in Israel, four (4) month Training in Canada plus fourteen (14) months in Afghanistan. There is the option for two (2), six (6) months extensions in Afghanistan.
Comments/Special Considerations:
Candidates must be willing to deploy overseas on rotation and be available for at least an 18-30 month employment period. All candidates must have previous military/defence experience and be able to achieve required security clearances.
